Alstom, Siemens Mull Forming 50-50 High Speed Train JV

Dow Jones Online News, 05/18/2000 08:12

PARIS -(Dow Jones)- Franco-British energy and transport engineering group Alstom SA (ALS) and Germany's conglomerate Siemens AG (G.SIE) said Thursday that they are considering setting up a 50-50 joint venture to develop a new cross-border high-speed train for Europe.

Alstom and Siemens don't rule out opening the venture to other European partners, the two companies said in a joint statement.

The Alstom and Siemens project follows an announcement earlier this year by Deutsche Bahn AG (G.DBU) and Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer (F.SNC) that the two railways operators will place a joint order for next generation of high-speed trains.

Alstom and Siemens said they have indicated their willingness to cooperate to the French and German railway operators. -0- 18/05/00 12-49G
