Hi Voop,

The StrongARM2 is used as a core for cell phone ASIC. Cell phone ASIC does not have direct relationship to I2O. I2O is used on system I/O devices for servers.

I am not aware of StrongARM being used by any non-Intel player. As far as know, ARM has no plan for any 64 bit core, and its 32 bit roadmap doesn't even get close to the 600-800MHz that StrongARM2 is targeting at. I don't think 3G phone really require that much general purpose horse power, but the StrongARM2 is such a great core, over using it may turn out to be Intel's advantage. As Allen has pointed out that a single CPU ASIC maybe more suited than Qualcomm's dual-CPU design. Good or bad, this will all be clear in 2001.

Regards,

Khan
