Victor: When you have been through a bubble, the emphasis shifts from return on capital to capital preservation. Have you noticed the drop in trading volume in the stock markets in the US?? Perhaps people are getting the message. 5% in a savings account and you get your principal back -- versus "lets put the money on SONE" (or whatever) and never see the money again.
