the only slightly negative thing i've read so far about zonealarm, but one worth mentioning if anyone is having a tough time keeping system resources free...

from Scot Finnie, Winmag.com
May 18, 2000 -- Vol. 3, No. 19

"For example, I've noticed that ZoneAlarm -- one popular firewall
product -- uses a fair chunk of system resources. I complained
about this to its makers, ZoneLabs, and they suggested uses not
run the ZoneAlarm GUI automatically at startup. You give up some
functionality, but over the long haul, it's a worthwhile trade-
off. You might want to check into the competing products from
NetworkICE, Symantec, and McAfee to see whether their firewalls
use fewer system resources."
