Otherwise, Mike and I will keep coming back at you with data while we tie you down.

Great post, Bruce!

Your description of Tom Gardner's Simpleton Portfolio reminds me of a contrasting disappointment that took place in the early days of the Fool. Though I've never yet figured out why in the world the Fool of all organizations agreed to have an online, real-money portfolio that was based on short-term trading, they did. I can't remember the name of the portfolio's manager, but he was no slouch. Immediately prior to managing the portfolio, he had won the USA Today national stock-picking context requiring short-term thinking and skills two years in a row! Despite those credentials, the portfolio was a massive educational failure were it not for the fact that it helped to show that 1) we should never look at portfolio performance over the short-term and 2) that even with such a skilled tactician the realm of short-term thinking can be perilous.

re58 months
I can't contract to do ANYTHING for 58 months. Oh my goodness, I'm trembling with anxiety even THINKING of such a thing (VVVBG).
Besides I need a double by February so I can quit working for the school district and go learn how to build a house, thanks to Ted who is the exact opposite and can promise to do things for his LIFETIME! What a concept!!!!!
But when my 30 days is over I'll write you and Mike and you can once again convince me to make another contract for another 30 days. Now that's better than "one day at a time"!!!!
:o)

But I admit, I've been AWFUL at trading: my money has been made holding Dell and then Qcom (and for a while CTXS and GMST though those are disappointing big time at the moment; well come to think of it so are Qcom and Dell)
