Japan's shipments of PC cards rose 14 percent from a year earlier to 5.22 million in the year
ended on March 31 in line with increased demand for digital cameras and personal computers (PCs), an industry
association said on Thursday.

The shipments rose 83 percent in value terms from a year earlier to 30.20 billion yen ($277.7 million), the Japan Electric Industry Development Association
(JEIDA) said.

PC cards include card-type modems and memory cards for use in notebook PCs and digital cameras, for which domestic demand rose sharply last year due
to increased use of the Internet e-mail.

Demand for use as memories for Web-based music devices that can download and play music from the Internet also helped to boost PC card shipments, an
association official said.

The association expects shipments in 2000/01 to rise 19.5 percent from a year earlier to 6.24 million units, worth 32.5 billion yen, up 7.6 percent from a year
ago, he said.

The figures are based on a survey of 48 Japanese distributors and makers of PC cards including Iwatsu Electric Co Ltd , NTT Data Corp , Kyocera Corp ,
Omron Corp , SanDisk Corp (NasdaqNM:SNDK - news), Canon Inc , Sharp Corp , Toshiba Corp , Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd and NEC Corp , Hitachi
Ltd and Murata Mfg Co Ltd .

Prophet,

I suggest we all act like mature adults and stop the name calling.

I don't wish to take sides publicly, but I too am concerned about the behavior of one of the posters to "The Thread".

I guess I should be the last to complain about behavioral "quirks", given my reputation here. I am generally tolerant, but have my limits. I don't recall being caught up in a succession of personal affronts such as we witnessed this morning.

The market is very frustrating. Maybe we should all step away from our PC's and take a couple breaths of fresh air.

Also, everyone should refamiliarize themselves with the terms of the agreement for SI, especially regarding personal attacks.
