David,

I "get it". However, what you, or many others don't seem to understand, is that while gold was perceived as an "financial instrument" that instilled discipline upon a currency, they FAIL TO REALIZE that Inflation Indexed Bonds ALSO INSTILL THAT SAME DISCIPLINE.

If economic policies are such that they undermine the currency, then inflation will grow and the government will be forced to pay higher rates for the money they borrow.

So what "I get" is that the functions that gold once held on a day-to-day basis in the financial system are being superceded by other financial instruments.

And that is process, baring a major global catastrophe, that will continue to pressure gold until it is just perceived as another pretty metal.

Regards,

Ron
