Thursday May 18, 8:00 am Eastern Time CSC Wins Contract to Redesign Medicare Managed Care System EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC - news) announced it has been awarded a contract by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) to redesign the Medicare Managed Care System (MMCS). The cost plus, award fee contract is valued at $21.1 million if all options are exercised during the 50-month contract. The HCFA is responsible for administering the Medicare Program and the joint Federal-State Medicaid Program. CSC will provide analysis of current and future business requirements, develop system requirements, and design the system, architecture and databases. CSC will also perform integration and stress testing, conduct parallel processing, validate and implement the system, and provide training and post-implementation support. The MMCS is required to meet current and future legislative requirements, accommodate anticipated growth, provide better service to beneficiaries, and facilitate HCFA's monitoring of the Medicare Managed Care program and evaluation of policy decisions. The system regularly computes payments that total more than $3 billion per month. Work will be performed by CSC's Civil Group and involve approximately 50 software engineers, process analysts and system architects in support of the contract at CSC's offices in Baltimore, Md. ``The volume of data that the Managed Care System deals with is extraordinary,'' said Mike Laphen, president of CSC's Civil Group. ``We look forward to implementing and managing these systems in partnership with HCFA.''
