There is a limit to the argument that it is their money. After all, they rely upon government services too, in various forms, and we can tolerate few "free riders". Taxes are what we pay for police, military, judicial, and other services. Rather than fee for service, we pay into it like insurance, as a hedge against the day we will need to sue, or call 911. Now, we don't want to pay an exorbitant amount for taxes, nor do we want to fund nonsense. However, it is one of the responsibilities of the electorate to make a general determination about how much service it wants, how much accountability there should be, and how much it is willing to pay for it. Democrats negotiate on behalf of the government, as it were. Republicans negotiate on behalf of the taxpayer. If the electorate will not concede too much power to Republicans, they have decided that they are reasonably content with the tax arrangements that are standing..........
