Harry, <Also, is Intel in competition with Sun DIRECTLY or INDIRECTLY, by supplying chips to CPQ, HWP, DELL, etc.>

Depends on what you mean by "directly" and "indirectly." Of course, Intel doesn't sell the server; Compaq, HP, Dell, and others do. Yet not only does Intel supply the chips, Intel also plays a huge role in platform development, market segmenting, product qual and validation, etc., etc. So it seems like Intel really is in direct competition with Sun.

Harry, John, Pompsander, Brian, JDN, you're welcome. I told myself going there that I was going to sit back and enjoy, but then the pen and notebook came out. I enjoy it either way.

Also, is Intel in competition with Sun DIRECTLY or INDIRECTLY, by supplying chips to CPQ, HWP, DELL, etc.

This always comes up, i.e., whether Intel should go into the box business themselves, and has been kicked around since the early days of this thread. One reason I wanted to get a closer look at the server racks at the meeting was to see what the servers did say on the outside (Dell, Compaq or whomever). Even though it was a bit of a distance, I don't think they said anything (except, I'm sure intel inside). But, no, no direct sales of servers, or PCs by Intel, still.
