Better than expected surplus numbers?
Cargill,Merrill,Shearson were buyers...
smells like same customer through different
desks simultaneously. Triggered mo-mo buyers and
some short cover. Could still end up weak
since crude > $30, GSCC index reapproaching highs.
Watch the SPM 1459 level....bears laying-in-wait there.

you are quite right. there was nothing in the minutes that could be construed as encouraging. mostly talk about increasing inflation risks and how not even faster productivity growth would be able to offset the demand pressures in the economy. obviously since both the official inflation and productivity data are more or less useless w.r.t. the actual state of affairs the Fed must be looking at other data, like the ECRI gauge.
