Looking out the coming next 3 years, I am trying to figure
out the revenue coming to QCOM from the development of 3G.

Assumptions:

a) All the numbers came from me and all of it is guesswork, no science involved
b) WCDMA is for real and it is introduced to the market.
c) Sales of one billion CDMA phones: 70% WCDMA and 30% CDMA2000
d) HDR is successful and 10 million ASIC are sold worldwide
e) Worse case, NOK, IDT, and ERIC all get a small piece of royalty and QCOM
Royalties of WCDMA units are dropped to $2.75 per unit.
f) Licensing fees are not included in my calculations.

(All # in millions except unit rates)
Total Royalty/ ASIC/ ASIC% Tot Rev TotRev TotRev
Sales Phone Phone Market Royalty ASIC 3Years

CDMA2000 300 $3.50 $35 95% $1,050 $ 9,975 $11,025

WCDMA 700 $2.75 $25 20% $1,925 $ 3,500 $ 5,425

HDR/Modem 10 $3.50 $45 100% $ 35 $ 450 $ 485

Total 1,010 $2.98 $14 100% $3,010 $13,925 $16,935

Mike,

A great quote from the Gardners' book You Have More Than You Think, on the need for personal efficacy in things financial. "If you're not using your brain, you're using something else: somebody else's advice, the daily horoscope, or blind luck. Your brain is the more powerful instrument."
