Thanks Earlie. One thing I thought might perhaps offset problems on the corporate desktop front was INTC's increasing penetration of the server market -- a higher margin business, no? I know Merced/Itanium has been delayed forever, but it was my impression that this chip would be in production by 2001. AMD has obviously made big inroads of late, but I have to question whether they can keep it up given Intel's much larger cap ex/R&D resources, AMD's historically chronic yield/manufacturing problems, and INTC's excellent long-term record of being able to reliably turn out the merchandise, its recent yield problems notwithstanding. Any comments on these?

Tks again

I am as bearish as anyone about overpriced favorites, but recently I was given a new Dell computer for my office, and that thing is extremely well engineered. You can pull out a kind tray if you want to add expansion boards--a lever releases the whole bank of boards--and you remove one screw and a unit swings to the side for adding/replacing hard drives. And the case opens like a suitcase, pushing a button on the front. That's as far as I have got, but I see other little levers and catches. In the end it doesn't work any better than the box that preceded it, but it sure is easy to monkey with. A great improvement over craning the neck while wearing bifocals and trying to stick some dern little screw in an out-of-the-way hole.

So I hope the business prospers, even as the stock tanks to a reasonable level.
