Victor <Japan's shadow budget, their backward old boy way of doing bus, their aging population and other ills of that nation portend continued marginalism for Japan in the world economy.> Like I said Victor, I don't want to live there -- but you MUST understand the role their money plays in our economy. Japan developed a culture of fear of economic collapse coming out of WWII -- and for good reason -- they were starving and very poor. The stock and real estate booms of the 80s made them arrogant as can be -- it was gross. And wasteful too. The end of their bubble renewed their obsession with saving -- and they loaned the money they saved to us (about 25% of their incomes!) as our stock market soared and we became arrogant and wasteful -- it does not make them smarter than us -- but it makes us dumb not to rethink our priorities just a little.
