Listened to the conference call. These guys really seem to understand the business. That sounds obvious but I have heard quite a few management types in other companies that were clueless about there products during conference calls.

All the questions started with 'great quarter' except Milunovich who said 'nice quarter'. Not sure what that means but he has been their biggest bull to date.

BT, FT, DT all customers of NTAP now. Those are some big names in telecom.

DW downplayed the capacity issue. He said they will have 6TB later this year and will be able to upgrade field units to 3TB+. He seemed to be saying that they were only doing this to allay concerns about the size of the box. As a matter of fact he stated something to the effect of greater than 0.5TB per box not making a lot of sense. Larger systems require too large of a back up unit was the comment I believe.

Still having no trouble finding people with lots of defections from SUN and EMC, etc.

DW said they have 60% market share up from 45% in NAS. That makes EMC claims on growth of NAS product sound feeble to me.

Q1 should be an easy comparison compared to later Q's in 2001 due to the acceleration of profits in late Q's of 2000.

68% of revenues from North America, 21% in Europe and 11% in Asia.

Lots of other good stuff. Worth a listen if you are long.

CEO comments from today's Motley fool show.
- 45% to 60% market share in one year
- 36 gigabyte server class drives used in a typical system
- Analogous to CSCO in that we sell a complete product
- 59% gross margins - used for sales and R&D
- 19% operating profit
- competitors is captive storage companies which is dominated by SUNW, CPQ, IBM, DELL. In free standing storage, we compete with EMC

Don't think the CEO listens to the Fools. He had a hard time explaining the company and how it makes money to the average listener.
