Well, maybe a blindsider is a better descriptor.

DSL wasn't the only misplaced platform to find a new lease on life because of the 'net. ISDN finally found its way into mass acceptance (relatively speaking) because of the 'net, too. It was initially thought to be a work at home tool, which it also is today --in addition to web-browsing Internet access-- increasingly, through enterprise VPNs which are ISP 'net-based. It gets convoluted...
