South African analysts wary ahead of sixth UK gold auction
Johannesburg--May 18--South African analysts are wary about the next gold
auction by the Bank of England on Tuesday, May 23, noting that both sentiment
and fundamentals are poor, but some say the market could stage a small rally
after the event. Piet Stoltz of BOE Securities expects the price fetched to be
the second-lowest at this, the sixth auction by the U.K. central bank on behalf

Japan's Sumitomo Metal Mining finds new gold deposit in Japan
Tokyo--May 19--Japan's Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Friday announced it has
proved new gold deposit near its Hishikari gold mine in southern Japan's
Kagoshima prefecture. The company plans to start test drilling there by the end

Canada March gold production down 9.76% from a year ago
Toronto--May 18--Canada's March 2000 total gold production fell 9.76% from
March 1999, and rose 5.50% from February 2000, Natural Resources Canada said
Thursday. Canada's total primary silver production was down 20.21% in March 2000

S Africa's AngloGold allays investor fears on Zimbabwe
