CALGARY (Dow Jones)--Synsorb Biotech Inc. (SYBB, news, msgs) said it has received Canadian
government approval to ship its SYNSORB Pk treatment to an outbreak of E-coli bacteria in Ontario.

In a press release, Synsorb said the shipments of emergency supplies will be sent to hospitals in the
area of Walkerton, Ont.

Five people have died and 10 are in critical condition after being infected with the bacteria in Walkerton,
a southern Ontario town of about 5,000 residents.

Synsorb said there is currently no available therapy for patients suffering from E-Coli infections.

The company said SYNSORB Pk is a drug designed to prevent "serious complications associated with
verotoxigenic E. coli infections."

It said the drug has been granted Fast Track Product designation by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration.
