Thanks for you response.

It quite close to what I had gathered from experience.

Yet, I didn't know how it was calculated.

>Trades at the ask are the "advancing" trades; trades at the bid are "declining" trades. So, when traders, on average are paying up for a stock, QTRIN will be above 1. When they are dumping it QTRIN will go below 1.<

I do not believe this idea is accurate (true?). The concept has previously been discussed in reply #6770 and 6771. From #6770 is the following:

"A market order to sell is executed at the bid and a limit order to buy is also executed at the bid (and vise versa at the ask). The T&S does not tell if the trade went at the bid or ask. We can know which it went at, by comparing to the bid and ask. But we, at our computers, do not know if it was a market order or a limit order. That is, was the trade a sell or a buy order? Only the (acting) MM (be it you or someone on the floor) knows this. So, if I am right, trades at bid do not (necessarily) indicate selling pressure and at ask buying pressure."

See #6671 for more info.

QTRIN:

If the QTRIN is ~ Vol@Ask / ~ Vol@Bid, then why is the QTRIN of ELON and ARBA for example today are both over 1?

When the Vol@Ask for both has been almost all day lower than the Vol@bid.

QTRIN for ELON is 1.09 Vol@Ask is 1.04M and Vol@Bid is 1.19M
QTRIN for ARBA is 1.16 Vol@Ask=1.9M and Vol@Bid is 2.85M

My math tells me that a number divided by any greater number should give a result under 1.

QTRIN:

You're saying that QTRIN is obtain by "Average volume of trades at the asking price divided by the average volume of trades at the bid price".

I did some bit of research on the subject and I just received an email from a QChart user telling me that you have an error in your formula.

Actually in QChart, a QTRIN > 1 means declining pressure while a QTRIN < 1 is advancing pressure.

For your programmer has made an error in the formula.

Dividing (Vol@bid / Vol@Ask) instead of the contrary.

Just try it on some stocks and find it for yourself.

QChart should correct the formula as soon as possible and notify every users of the error.
