Weekly Jobless Claims = +6k to 284k

In the week ending May 20, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 284,000, an increase of 6,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 278,000. The 4-week moving average was 291,000, an increase of 500 from the previous week's revised average of 290,500.


Q1 GDP = +5.4%
Price Deflator = +2.7%

Real gross domestic product -- the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States -- increased at an annual rate of 5.4 percent in the first quarter of 2000, according to preliminary estimates released by the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the fourth quarter, real GDP increased 7.3 percent.

Existing Home Sales for April = -6.2% to 4.88m units

Sales of existing-homes declined 6.2 percent in April to a seasonally adjusted annual rate* of 4.88 million units from a 5.20-million unit pace in March. Last month?s resale pace was 6.9 percent below the 5.24-million unit rate recorded in April 1999.
