Assuming you are referring to SI's post growth, I beg to differ. RB's post growth vs. SI's would suggest that free is still better in most posters' eyes. Russ and all have bucked prevailing wisdom by insisting on profits to accompany growth. Whether that has worked in SI's case appears inconclusive.

Disclaimer: I love SI. As a poster grandfathered-in before membership fees, would not want it any other way. (Such fees keep out the riff-raff.)
