Stephen-thanks for that wake-up call article-I mostly agree but think that it misses one point. The Fed does want us to spend less money, but it won't be able to do that simply by raising rates UNLESS it can also limit the amazing gains people have made in markets the last few years-stock profits over 20% feel like free money to people, and they will spend it without worrying about interest rates. So the Fed does have one (or maybe both) eye on the market, and keeping stock prices down is one of the major goals. For better or for worse, that's the situation we have to live with-we will be battling the Fed for any gains in the market until we all stop spending our profits.
