Desktop Linux isn't really what the free software threat to M$ is about. In fact, it's not that much about 'Linux' at any level. It's more about the paradigm changing from 'software' altogether. --- Although I agree with what you say about the sinking value of Windows (and every other computer operating system), the real story (IMO) is that MS does not sell hardware, and hardware is what the paradigm is all about. --- The 'operating system' is increasingly less relevant. --- Windows, as if on cue today is helping make the case against the whole local user PC paradigm. The fellow who was down a week and a half from a simple script worm and now has to disable file attachments altogether, isn't going to require much of a sales pitch to start using a connected thin client and paying his dollars to AT&T (or whoever) for bandwidth and 'application services' rather than to Dell for virus prone Windows PC (IMO) -JCJ
