what exactly did he suggest? that they conspire to bring the economy down right before the election?

my own impression is that the administration and the Fed are at cross-purposes right now. the government is trying to lower long term rates by buying back debt and has recently stepped up its spending, and Al is trying to cool things down.

treasury has btw. a history of sending harshly worded complaints Al's way when he gets too tight before an election.
