Nortel Networks, BT Form Alliance to Provide Networking Solutions in Asia Pacific
SINGAPORE - Nortel Networks* [NYSE/TSE: NT] and BT (British Telecommunications plc) have formed an alliance to offer end-to-end, managed voice and data networking solutions in the Asia Pacific region.
This alliance combines Nortel Networks' extensive portfolio of network infrastructure and management products with network integration, management and professional services from BT for comprehensive, end-to-end networking solutions that can grow with enterprises as their business grows.
"Businesses today are looking for one-stop communications shopping," said Barry Southern, president, Enterprise Solutions for Nortel Networks in Asia. "They're too busy focusing on their own core competencies to be concerned with building and managing a network infrastructure. Nortel Networks and BT can provide the networking solutions they need to exploit the eBusiness opportunities made possible by the emerging new high-performance Internet."
With the combined strengths of Nortel Networks and BT, the alliance can implement even the most complex network solutions and applications, including: wide area and virtual private voice, video and data networks; intranets/extranets; end-to-end management of equipment, network policies and security; and sophisticated call centres.
"No one company can, for example, provide all the components of a call centre," said Peter Shaw, regional manager, Strategic Markets Business Solutions, BT. "Of course, BT has a lot of call centre experience. We run one of the world's largest call centres ourselves. We are very good at delivering call traffic to and from call centres. But only by teaming with a company like Nortel Networks can we supply a complete solution including call centre equipment and applications."
Nortel Networks and BT plan to target potential customers with offices in multiple cities, or those who wish to expand operations into and throughout the Asia Pacific region.
"Nortel Networks and BT are global players with strong, on-going commitments to the Asia Pacific market," Southern said. "Both have proven track records, and both are readily equipped to support customers expanding into this market."
