I've looked at a number of these scanning packages, and you can pretty much bet that you're going to have to pay for an expensive data feed.

FWIW, if you do move to another brokerage such as Watley, Cyber, etc you may be able to leech... For example, with Watley, your $300 monthly for the data feed is giving back in the form of a rebate if you execute 50 or more trades per month. Some scanning software is Realtick III compatible and will run in conjuction with your Watley client. (Realtick III is the basis for a number of trading packages: realtick.com. TradExperience is introducing trading software called MADWARE that works in conjustion with eSignal. (http://www.tradexperience.com/default.htm)

So... despite all the aggravations of the trading software and rules, this might be your impetus to move from a discount broker to a full service trading broker.

There is a review of OmniTrader in this month's Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities magazine. It is generally positive. OmniTrader has some interesting (and apparently proprietary) buy/sell algorthims. The developer is Ed Downs....http://www.trading-ideas.com/guest/signalwatch/signalwatch.html

I tried MetaStock RT about two years ago when it was first introduced. It was buggy and had trouble with eSignal's Data Manager and I returned it. The backtesting and systems tools were very good.
