I don't think we have started the mother of all bear markets, yet. I think:

1) Many traders were wiped out making volume low which makes it seem worse.

2) We have been spoiled by astronomical returns for little effort (dart throwing if you will) and we have gotten sloppy.

3) The Fed has moved too fast. Rate hikes (as I was taught) take 9 months to trickle into the market. The repetitive bombarding with rate hikes scares the hell out of people who have seen the fed send us into recession before.

4) Nobody wants to commit money when they know damn well that we have another rate hike coming in June. This too is causing low volume.

5) The "better dead than red mentality." Nobody wants to watch their money take the road south day after day. As a result they would rather miss part of the ride up than watch red numbers everyday on stocks they own.

The volume will return and the market as we knew it will be back. It may not be on monday but it WILL return. This is not the mother of all bears - yet. The feds policy going forward will determine mother, father or just younger brother. <g>
