I think many of the writers on "feelies" were very bright intellectuals with the appropriate degrees and I.Q. to back them up. However, as history has proven hundreds of times over, intellectuals don't have what it takes to be a leader. They usually wind up advising leaders or standing on the sidelines whining about how stupid their leaders are. They never run for election because they know full well the only vote they will get will be from mom.
