Ausdauer, re: "BTW, never heard of an "8.0 megapixel" camera, even for a professional digital camera. I would check you source of information as it seems quite unreliable."

Hey ... watch it! I was that source. Actually, we're both right.

2-3 megapixel cameras produce images equivalent to snapshot (ASA 400) film and $100 cameras. To double the resolution you would need 4 times the pixels .. a capacity you're not likely to see in stores by Christmas.

On the other hand, that isn't even close to what's possible on film if you have enough time and money. Many years ago, I snapped a street scene using an old German SLR, a tripod, and PlusX film. In the darkroom, I projected the image on the opposite wall for about 50x magnification. You could clearly read the street signs almost two blocks away!

I haven't a clue what resolution Ansel Adams obtained using huge cameras and 8x10" film but it is very impressive to the eye. Since color printers spray ~30 million dots on an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper at 600 DPI, there's no realistic limit as to how "crisp" an image can be.

All that said, I have my sights set on a Nikon 990. 3 megapixels is enough resolution to handle 99% of the photos I ever expect to shoot.

Is the new Canon Powershot camera small or what?

Check this out:
steves-digicams.com

The new Canon Powershot s100 Elph digicam is pictured next to its CompactFlash card (Canon branded).

This thing is so small it can fit in a T-shirt pocket! I hear this camera works a lot better with a Sandisk card.
