Voop,

<< And of course, the SMART CARDS business better get cranking soon, don't you think? >>

You sound like my boss! He can't spell smart card, but thats why he has me, as he too often reminds me. <g>

Actually, it is cranking along pretty good. US still trying to climb out of the chasm, but some things are looking pretty good, and yes, even here in the US. DOD & GSA will give smart cards some recognition here.

I am sitting here reading the print version of "Card Technology" (May 2000). Cover Story is "Is the USA Ready for Smart Cards: How e-commerce could offer the elusive killer app".

In the article is a chart that shows Smart Card growth in the USA from 1998 to 2005 (and it excludes conditional access cards for settop boxes used in pay TV). I'll look to see if I can find a link to the table tomorrow but the chart shows unit sales increasing from 4.5 million (M) in 98 to 9M in 99 and to 108M in 2005. It also shows revenue increasing from $28.8M in 98 to $255M in 2005.

I have not checked out www.cardtechnology.com to see if the table is up there (probably is), but here I sit, while the real gorilla & kingsters are frolicking in Las Vegas, preparing a presentation for use next week in Colorado, determined to move this item out of the chasm.

Wish I was in Vegas.

Where is Joel & how is his Dad?
