ALA has a huge problem, and it's just not Cisco.

It is Europe. Or (in more particular), the French goverment. Now this is a macro arguement, so it might be wrong. And I know that ALA is an international company.

Anyway, I just read an article that the French goverment has in place when it wants companies to limit the work week to 30 (or so (maybe 35), I don't remember) hours a day to reduce unemployment.

Well, of course, I don't have an opinion on if this is really a good thing or a bad thing. I'm an engineer, and of course, I'd love to only work 30 hours a week. That's not the point.

But try to imagine poor Ala with it's engineers working 30 hours a week against Cisco's that are working 45, 50 or 55 (60?) hours a week. It's like trying to run a race without your legs. And I didn't mention the tax advantage, or the University advantage, or any of the other advantages that CSCO has over ALA.

It'll be a disaster. France has to realize that it's in a very competitive enviroment. And the worlds changing fast.

Lastly, hearsay tells me that ALA doesn't acquire well. Too bad for them.

Gary Just trying to call 'em like I see 'em. I don't disagree that ALA is still the market leader but their lead is a result of
incumbency. They have shown an inability (as a percentage) to land new accounts except when discounting heavily.


your statement clearly indicates that you are from CSCO PR department.
two years ago xDSL was in infancy.now is hitting on all cylinders.
it is natural that leader with 80% market shares will loose shares.
the bottom is that ALA is installing more lines then any others
incumbency?, my friend not only incumbency.
big guys need real gear, not best effort from CSCO
like money loosing ISP financed by CSCO.
Big guys pay ALA in cash.
Again can CSCO deliver TV and Video commercially now?
NO.
Can ALA/NN do it - yes they can and they are doing this now!.
Why?, b/c they have superior xDSL platform


BTW, look at NN 3DSL, talk to customer who attended Geneva 1999 show.
Nobody come even close.
