Eric L: Thanks as always. Since as usual you have been diligent in your search, it seems that HDR is the odd man out so far on "upgrades".

Perhaps it is just too early or perhaps there is just too much focus in Europe (and especially the Swedish headquarters of Ericsson) on GPRS for now.

But looking at this from the standpoint of keeping GSM a major contender for some years, using HDR for data would seem to be a "no brainer" itself as far as technologies go.

But as we all have learned, politics, culture, or "solidarity" or whatever (including a large dose of inertia) seems to keep each "camp" remarkably isolated.

Ericsson could be in an excellent position to take leadership in preserving the viability and longevity of voice GSM if it were supplemented with HDR for data.

Would seem as though that would be a very attractive combination.

Or am I missing a key technological flaw - are GSM and HDR technologically incompatible? I thought they could be used side by side in current frequencies if there were the will.

Guess that is the rub. Ericcson does not yet see this combination as a major opportunity, so its leadership is missing.

Best and respect.
