Of course Volker did it out of courage and intelligent conviction. There has never been anyone to equal that guy.

I am going to say that Carter didn't stand in the way of what the country needed. Walter Cronkite sat there every evening making Carter look like an irresolute fool for not invading Iran to free a handful of people--which if he had done would have scared Russia bad enough to possibly start World War III with nukes. Then George Bush & Co. showed that America could beat the holy jihad out of Iraq and stop short once the mission was done, proving to Russia that the US could be trusted even if they couldn't trust themselves. And once Russia saw there was no further excuse for paranoia, they collapsed.

I think we have had a lot of wonderful presidents and other top people ever since we got rid of Nixon but things have got real soft lately. Not mean, not crooked, but soft.

But oh my God, take W. away! Let him go run the Houston Chamber of Commerce--a great challenge for his abilities.
