Agreed on Jefferson's leg. When he could think about it, it seemed to be a problem, but when he was fighting, it looked like he had the full range of motion.

William Joppy fought very well with a first round TKO, but his opponent (I forgot the name already, Started with an R) certainly wasn't in the same league.

It wasn't the best night for boxing IMO.

LPS5,

i didn't see the jefferson injury the way you did. not at all. i saw a legitimate injury that hobbled the fighter. no doubt it was maskaev's power that dumped him, thus causing the injury. but the way he held his leg convinced me that it was legit. as for there being moments when he seemed to not be bothered by it, well, i think you've just defined adrenaline. it's wrong to toss jefferson in the same bag with norris. at least that's what i saw.

moving on to sanders vs. rahman.... a couple things. first of all, watching sanders, i couldn't help but think of cooney, especially when sanders threw that left uppercut.

also, a note about rahman's final barrage. one of the ringsiders said that rahman threw "about 17 unanswered punches". nope. i counted. he threw 39! i was impressed by his determination to put sanders away. rahman completely woke up. it was a killer instinct, and one that isn't always present in a fighter. i'm not saying that i think rahman can advance much beyond this level of competition. he probably can't.

i didn't see the joppy fight, as i was committed to watching the fight on the other channel. but i saw the machado vs. grabo (?) fight that ended in a draw. now that decision belongs in the same bag with orlin norris! as in what a bad smell! machado clearly won the fight, but the two points deducted must have really hurt. machado put on a fine boxing display, imo. i hate to see a guy give that kind of effort and not get the nod.

speaking of feigned injuries.... barry bonds would hold the world title if such an award was handed out. what gets me is how everyone marvels at his "amazing recuperative powers", when all along he was just laying down. then, to put the icing on the cake, he says stuff like, "you know me, i'm in there until the end". right. can you say orlin norris, barry?

:)
