I barely follow Noranda so my opinion is really not worth much. I have never liked the company, I find it drab and always lagging any sector rises. They , some time ago, have decided to get out of all resources other than mining and indeed have sold off much (all?) forestry holdings. They have declared about a year ago that they are interested in buying up all of Falconbridge on the open markets over a period of time. Apparently they have large capital expenditures coming up and that was why they were slowly buying back into mining since cash and a need to finance would be a large demand on them. That is all I really know. I see they are down from their one year high at $20 to $16.50. Generally it seems they are performing much like the lagging metals. In my mind, metals are due for an upwards correction in the next few months as investor sector rotation finds the metals again. Historically, Falconbridge and Inco join the economic booms very late into the cycle and tend to stay up a while as the boom collapses. This may be the beginning of that boom bust scenario in these companies now. (perhaps)
