A very easy way to convert dollars to Euros is to join the American Automobile Association and buy free travelers checks. They look up the current exchange rate and sell you the checks. No fee--though doubtless you lose something on the quote. You also get free towing, travel books, maps, etc. If the Euro appreciates and if you travel to Europe, you have in effect locked in cheaper hotels and meals. As I need not say, though, you don't get any interest.

Some years ago I enjoyed the benfits of a 30% appreciation on some Swiss Franc Traverlers checks when I paid for my meals and hotel in Switzerland. Right now I have a pile of Swissies that I am losing on.

Thanks for all the information, which I will start studying.
