KyrosL: If your customers wish to be stuck with a 50 k data rata for wireless access to the internet and/or the other data uses coming up over the next few years, then the advantages of efficiency (which should appeal to the operators)are probably irrelevant to the consumer (although fewer dropped calls might be a plus). (And GPRS should do better than 50 k) So yes, in that case leave the rapid data field to CDMA in the current spectrum.

Everyone will have more than 50 k in the new spectrum, regardless of the CDMA flavor chosen. So then the question becomes how soon and how pervasive will that access to CDMA on the new spectrum be - whether WCDMA or some other flavor.

The fun test case will be where (outside of Europe of course), the customer has a choice of up to 40 times that in the current spectrum or will be pleased with GSM and 50 kpbs for data.

Every situation where there has been access to greater speed, that has turned out to be a major plus for the provider. Perhaps for GSM that is not the case.

Best.
