I see, Peter. What he's talking about is the equivalent of "resetting" a hung up resource, thereby re-establishing the link. This is not what I had previously thought you meant. It makes more sense now.

Often times, as you know, comms glitches are rectified simply by pulling cards out of their slots and "resetting" them or "slapping them back" in. Not very elegant, and not very scientific, I know, but this approach has been known to clear a wide variety of gremlins. When it happens more than once or twice, a more in-depth level of investigation is indicated.

Excess voltage, though... don't you just hate when that happens? <s>

I'd be careful, and regard with a grain of salt, anything that the technician tells you. Anyway, it's good that they're keeping you on the air with a dialup in the meantime.
