Hi Harvey Allen; LOL!!! Never thought I would see someone publicly admit to owning one of those i820 SDRAM machines...

I guess I wouldn't mind one myself, at the right price. I bet I could keep it running. But I'd prefer the RDRAM version, it's faster. If you get Intel to trade it in for RDRAM, do inform the thread.

I couldn't connect to your link, but I remember the general context of the ASUS PR text from week last.

If I recall correctly, they seemed to indicate scepticism about the MTH problem, but nonetheless were d/c ing the SDRAM / MTH parts and offering replacement. Sort of a careful CYA, which one would expect in any recall situation. Of note, they made specific reference to continuing production on the RDRAM parts. The tenor of the announcement was terse. Can't say I blame them.

Any further details or service / technical analysis remain beyond my intellectual grasp.
