Re: Fixed Broadband Wireless- Is it rolling out?"...but either I'm still ignorant of this technology, or it just doesn't seem real to me yet." lml- I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but Advanced Fiber Communications(sym:AFCI) largest customer is a fixed broadband wireless customer, Winstar(sym:WCII). I wasn't quite sure if it was for real either. But if you check out all the 2000 rollout plans, IMO it's for real but very early in the game. Below are a few recent clippings that seem to back it's validity. I'm still not 100% convinced. I suppose once MCI/Worldcom starts their push, then it will become significant overnight. -MikeM(From Florida) ___________________"AFCI commented that WCII rolled out to 2,000 buildings last year. This year it's on target to rollout to 5,000. Next year they plan to rollout to 20,000! I'm not sure what to make of this? Supposedly there are 700,000 office buildings in the US without fiber(out of a total 4.6 million commercial buildings). So for Winstar to get 20,000 connected via LMDS by next year, seems realistic." That's a paltry sum compared to the tens of billions expected to be spent on cable and DSL services during the same time. ``It's a slow starter,' says Gartner Group analyst Bob Egan, because fixed wireless technology is relatively new." And I imagine, there should be some major ones coming out of MCI/Worldcom/Sprint, once they get their merger completed. I'm guessing they are keeping a low profile in regards to their access plans to avoid any potential problems with the FCC." Message 13445747
