LOL,

could not AMD pull an iNteL and add this Comm sale to it's Q2 earnings?

$2 added per share sounds good to me.

Make it so,
Mysef

AMD sells Comm division

IMO AMD were right to go through with the sale, even if their cash flow situation has eased recently with the Athlon profits. Those comm products are lower margin and there is increasing competition in that area.

AMD don't need diversification at present. Better to focus management attention on the core businesses of CPU and flash and look again to diversification when they hit their goals (30% penetration?) in those market segments.

All,

It looks like AMD and INTC may cross over pretty soon, at about $60 (pre-split.) Maybe RMBS will join them too.

Steve - RE: "AMD Announces Agreement to Sell Its Communication Products Division to Francisco Partners"

At first I didn't think $375 was a lot, but compared to Vantis they got a good amount. This deal values the Communications division at $417M (AMD still owns 10%) and Vantis was sold for $500M.

Here is how much revenue Vantis and the Communication division brought in over time

1996 1997 1998 1999 2000
Vantis $248M $243M $205M $87* NA
Communication ? ? ? $168M 59.5**
