Ah yes, they did indeed build out loads of networks, as did Motorola...need I say more? ;-)

Long term winner is hard to predict, but you can guess who I think will be the leader 5 years from now.

Nortel has spent some not quite inconsiderable sum to ensure that they are seen as an IP player in recent years. However, I question this strategy strongly (something I'm sure was evident in my previous post). Short-term gains are only that, we saw it with GSM and likely to see it again with WCDMA.

PS An ex-colleague of mine is, I believe, becoming the Comm's Director, EMEA, for Nortel - Just like to wish her good luck! I did say to her the only way is up, as when I discuss wireless issues with my editor/analyst friends Nortel does not get a great deal of airplay!
