Or less unlikely, in a new PGM-only royalty/fund company (PGMs R Us) trading in the US and Canada, holding equities, NSRs, metals futures and some other derivatives. (Watch the NAV and trade it like BEARX or CEF.)

Run, perhaps by a savvy CEO named Ptaskmaster? <g>

Ptask,

>>"...Pt and Pd do not appear to have the Central Bank and hedging/forward sales problems that gold has." The nature of the financing, for which the rumoured Swiss bank stash of Russian Pd is collateral, is unknown.<<

This is very small compared to what is out there on gold. Just look at Ashanti and Barrick to see how many golden ounces are already sold.

I do not think that Pt/Pd demand will go down in the near future; just the amount that will be needed for autocatalysts in the next 2 years should keep this in order. What about fuel cells? etc. Pt is increasingly being used in jewelry- Saf and R are marketing it. etc etc.

The commodities in general seem to be entering a bull phase. I figure once the NAZ tanks in Oct 2000 <g> we are going to see a gold/silver rally- Pt and Pd should follow. I disagree with $280- that is a level we saw in 1998 and demand is many multiples higher than in 1998. If demand holds and increases it will probably eat all of the forecasted production. And who knows if we will ever see that new production with the state of affairs in Saf and R. Anglo and Impala came to explore for PGE's in Canada with a good reason. They could have come over at any time in the past- why now? We will see how things turn out soon enough. IMO, if Pd can hold above $400 for 2000, we will have reached a new level.

On a 1 to 2 year bet, at this moment, I would rather throw some money at Implats or PDL on an uncertain Pt/Pd price than into a gold stock like Placer Dome. I am waiting for PDL to stop drifting downward and will start accumulating a small position.

Perhaps Lassonde and Franco-Nevada should take a run at the royalty side of PGE. They already have a royalty in SWC.
