JDN: I'll bet you a six pack (or if you would prefer a
pizza) that there will be no FED tightening from September through November 2000. That should pretty well decide if there are any political connections. My bet, there will be none.

<I suppose the Rep party will take the blame for all of this though they had NO INPUT at all in any of it.> Greenspan is a Republican (of the extreme Ayn Rand laissez-faire variety). He was appointed by a Republican, BUsh. THe Hawks on the FRB who outvoted him are all without exception, Republican.
The only voices of modeation have been the San Francisco Fed GOvernor and Alice Rivlin, both Democrats.
republicans love high interest rates and the middle class losing in the market; it returns capital to its rightful owners, in their view.
