Doesn't that VIX use a bunch of short term options that are heavily weighted??? If true, with a whole month left to expiration you won't get the silly 'marks' that you got in April where a close on the offer of some index call can really whack it out.

i don't get exact numbers...i just call up index options chains and eyeball them. i know what the major contracts are normally trading, so i can judge what's going on `more or less from scanning the chains. the low VIX is somewhat surprising...i'm actually waiting for it to pop so i can sell some puts....
