If you use Linux the way you use Windows, then Windows is the better product. The movement behind Linux is a movement away from PC-centric computing to server-based computing with thin clients, like browsers, X-Windows, Terminal Server or Citrix.

And remember, there is difference between attacks and viruses. Attacks may down a server or a site, whereas a virus spreads all over the place and therefore creates much more damage. It is a fact, that Linux is much more virus-safe than Windows, although some applications on top of Linux might feature virus-enabling technology, like if MS Office would be ported to Linux.

Regarding StarOffice and security, there is a discussion going on at Slashdot right now:

There are no good comments as of the time I write this, but I hope some insightful persons will comment.

You're wrong Sandeep. Unix is a relatively secure O/S.
During the time when 45,000 viruses have infected PC's
around the world only a few have infected Unix servers.

If you know anything at all about operating systems then
you will know what the differences are and why Windows
is a cyber-terrorist's dream. You need to remember that
there are 10's of millions of legacy desktop systems
around the world running this unsecured software. M$FT
will never get over that problem.

M$FT is the enemy of the entire internet economy, because
they want to participate in it, but with all their own
proprietary connections and crummy unsecure software. It
turns customers OFF when they experience a virus that
destroys their entire DISK DRIVE. It's to the point
where M$FT is a DRAG on the entire computer business, &
they need to be taken down.

In other words, they're giving the internet a bad name.
We don't need that.
