You could think of it, about it, afterwards? Think about the symbolism of something you just wrote? I don't know. Jeez. Like the story about the Ryobi Drill Guns... except that that was a dream, so the symbolism existed before the story was told... Except that when I wrote down the dream, I didn't know what the symbolism was... Oh shoot,...this is just getting confusing...

Oh, I don't think you have to know that the image has symbolism when you start. At least not symbolism per se. Probably not. I think you just get this breathless feeling, really. But I restrict that comment to photographs. I know a lot of painters and sculptors and even writers deliberatly attempt to be symbolic.
