Hi Markus,

Good to hear from you, Mark.

theoretical: confined to theory or speculation often in contrast to practical

I don't think we have to "theorize"(is that a word?) about it at all Mark.

James, in his letter, writes this:
Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is <<<the Lord's will>>>, we will live and do this or that."

Without going into a 10 page post, Mark, to ME, this is the basis for all action. The Lord's will.

Can I ask the Lord anything in His will? Why not! The bigger question may be, WHAT would I ask, if I am in indeed in His will? Would I ask(as an example) that Home Depot be crippled tomorrow, because I am going to short it? How silly does that sound? And if I was not being silly, who else would I destroy by asking such? What would be my purpose? My pleasure? Am I still in His will?

Of course your question about offense, again, I am of the belief that God is Worthy of honor, praise, glory, and if I utter offensive words to Him, am I hurting HIM? .....or ME?

Does God care??? OF A CERTAINTY, He cares. Otherwise He would not be watching for His lost to come home.(Luke 15:20), nor would he leave 99 to find one(Matthew 18:12)
nor would he sweep the house clean and rejoice to find a lost one(Luke 15:8-9)

As far as the assumption that we make that it initially must be wrong to be comfortable, Paul says it best when he says he learned to be content with living with "plenty or in want" (Phil 4:12) because he can do everything IN HIM who gives strength.

Surely God can understand the desire to provide for our families and secure their futures?

And what would this look like , Mark?? Example:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Take, oh lets say the father of a Christian family in the Sudan, today.... how should he interpret that scripture, if he is asking the same question that you asked?

dan

Dear Mark,
Good to here from you. I hope your family is doing well! I had just copied this when I read your post :-)

Ice Cream for the Soul - author unknown

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six year old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads, he said, "God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom
gets us ice cream for dessert. And liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!" Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at
me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer." "Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart," he replied.
Then in a theatrical whisper, he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream.
A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here,
this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes and my soul is good already."

Would we even enjoy Ice Cream if God had not given it to us to enjoy?
Lord Bless you,
Nancy
