Chinadotcom <CHINA.O> to invest $250 mln in China

BEIJING, May 25 (Reuters) - Asian Internet firm Chinadotcom
Corp. <CHINA.O> will invest roughly $500 million globally in
the next one to two years, and half of it in China, Chief
Executive Officer Peter Yip said on Thursday.
"You will see 50 percent of our funds earmarked for China
over the next year or so," Yip told reporters. "I think you can
safely say $250 million."
Yip said China's expected entry into the World Trade
Organisation -- smoothed by a historic U.S. trade vote on
Wednesday -- was a key factor in the investment strategy.
The company, which has raised more than $500 million over
the past year from stock offerings, is seeking to shore up its
position in the crowded China portal market.
Sina.com, Netease.com and Sohu.com all attract more traffic
than Chinadotcom's flagship site, www.china.com.
