CrosStor Announces OEM Relationship with CIENA
Vendors Collaborate on Real-Time Database Solutions For Intelligent Optical Core Switch
SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2000--CrosStor Software, Inc. announced today an OEM relationship with CIENA Corporation, a market leader in optical networking solutions, for the integration of CrosStor's mission-critical file systems within CIENA's intelligent optical core switching systems.

CIENA will integrate CrosStor's high-availability, self-healing storage software, the CrosStor Embedded File System, within its MultiWave CoreDirector(TM) optical switching systems. The CrosStor Embedded File System (FS) is a POSIX-compatible, plug-and-play file system for telecommunications devices with mission-critical data storage capabilities. The software works with systems running WindRiver's VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), and is based on CrosStor's third-generation, high-performance, journaling file system.

CIENA's CoreDirector provides the high-bandwidth switching, protection, and provisioning capabilities for next-generation optical networking. The CoreDirector uses new optics-, software-, and hardware-based technologies to enable carriers to dynamically provision new, differentiable optical services at any time and of any size or priority--while eliminating the need for additional SONET/SDH add/drop multiplexers and digital or optical cross-connects. Designed to meet carrier needs, CoreDirector's multi-tiered restoration architecture allows carriers to deploy ring, mesh, and point-to-point architectures simultaneously on a single platform. CrosStor Embedded FS stores CoreDirector's performance-monitoring data in real time and maintains all switch configuration data, which is continuously updated.

``CrosStor's Embedded File System provides substantially higher reliability, availability, and performance metrics over traditional file systems,'' said Chris Liou, director of product management and marketing for CIENA's Core Switching Division. ``CoreDirector is at the heart of our customers' intelligent optical core, so high availability is critical. CrosStor's self-healing, failover capabilities meet CoreDirector's stringent reliability requirements.''

``As more intelligence is distributed throughout the telecommunications network infrastructure, network system providers are recognizing the importance of storage systems focused on data availability and reliability,'' added Jeff Helthall, CrosStor VP of Sales and Marketing. ``CrosStor's Embedded FS is an ideal solution because it provides these capabilities and is designed for straightforward integration within the embedded platforms widely used in telecommunications networks.''
